BlackBerry Quick Tips

February 28, 2009

I aim to update this page regularly with hints and tips for using your BlackBerry.

  • If you have a BIS set up, it is better to create a web account rather than set up email on the device. See your network for the web address of their BlackBerry BIS set up.
  • A quick way to lock the keypad on most BlackBerries is to hold the star key (“*” on the “A” key) down for a few seconds. To unlock, press * and the green dial button.
  • If you have let your inbox fill up and find that you have hundreds of emails but don’t wish to spend time deleting them one by one then highlight a date bar in your in box, press the application button and choose “Delete Prior” then confirm. This will delete all emails previous to the date you selected. If there are any emails you wish to keep prior to using this function the highlight those emails and again, pree the applcation key and choose “Save”. Even though these vanish from your inbox, you can view them by selecting “View saved messages” from the menu.
  • To save on battery life on Wi-Fi enabled devices, turn the Wi-Fi connection off when not in a Wi-Fi area. Turning Bluetooth off when not in use also helps.
  • To select text to copy and paste press the Alt key then press the rollerball then roll over the text you wish to highlight. When done press the rollerball again and select copy. By pressing the rollerball in the area you wish to paste the text you can then select “Paste”.
