Facebook App For BlackBerry

March 9, 2009

I have been using the free Facebook application for a few weeks now, both on my 8800 and the new 8900.

Whilst it’s no substitute for FB on a PC web browser it’s fantastic for keeping in touch whilst out and about.

The first option on the menu is Status Updates where you can easily post your own updates, as well as view recently changed Updates of your friends.

Next on the list is a great pictures feature. If your BlackBerry has a built in camera, you can take a photograph and upload it straight to your FB albums. Just think, you can be out partying and snapping away and the pix can be on Facebook before anyone even gets home! If your device doesn’t have a camera you can still upload pictures from the device memory or memory card.

The next three icons are View Friend List, Invite a friend and Poke Someone, which do pretty much as they say on the tin.

The last two options are Write on Your wall and Messages. The ability to send and receive messages to your FB friends is a great feature for a BlackBerry.

All in all, despite it lacking the addictiveness of browsing the full site, its a fantastic way of keeping up to date with all things Facebook and makes those mid morning trips to the loo more enjoyable!

Download it and have a play.

BlackBerry Apps Are Taking Over…

March 4, 2009

I’m sat in a pub, watching footy and the match is not great. The beer is good though and the Sweet Chilli peanuts even better.

I’m updating my blog on my 8900, chatting to a friend in the Ukraine on Skype chat, updating my Facebook status and checking other footy scores. Still there is something missing though.

I realise that I can’t complete my wireless life without a Twitter application on my BlackBerry.  So using Google search (the best thing EVER), I find a link for TwitterBerry and downloaded it straight to my 8900 (just over 64k).

It installs and configures painlessly and my first BB Tweet is sorted, no problem.

I have a dilemna though.  I want the Twitter icon on my homepage but it’s competing with email, web, facebook, skype, contacts and calender icons. Sorry calender, you are now confined to the main menu screen. My Social Networking app tools are far too precious and need to be in easy reach.

Until the “next big thing” app is discovered, I’ll keep it that way, now back to the football…
