Can I Use An Ordinary Vodafone Pay As You Go Sim Card On A Second Hand Vodafone Blackberry?

I have been given a blackberry without a sim card. Would I be able to use a normal vodafone pay as you go sim card (like you’d get in a mobile phone) to access web and emails on the blackberry, or do I have to buy a special sim card?
